The art of 'Two Against Nature'
Michael Northrup tells the stories behind his photos from Steely Dan's 2000 album.
Once upon a time, there were four against nature.
In 1980, the photographer Michael Northrup was hiking in a state park west of Chicago with his then-wife and two friends. The late-afternoon sun began to cast long shadows. He lifted his camera and casually snapped a photograph of their silhouettes stretched across a patch of rocky terrain beside the woods.
