Svengali figure,used to being praised to the sky, encounters something of inarguable excellence and remains silent. Is it the silence of admiration or of envy ( or of some more inscrutable region of the heart )?

Silence from him because at that moment he was probably thinking something along the lines of...'Blimey, this is superb and, what's more, it's sort of 'timeless' and won't ever 'date' when heard by future generations, unlike the vast majority of stuff I've done with that bunch from Liverpool..." ... And of course, if he was thinking that, he would have been spot on.

I'll cut him some slack because he had probably never heard anything quite like that before. Also, he produced Paul Winter's Icarus album and referred to it as "the finest album I've ever made," and it's hard to argue with him.
